| Mr. Chance, Charlie Brown, and Sugar | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Dwain lives in Florrisant with Charlie Brown, Sugar and Mr. Chance (Mister because he's a senior Sheltie and commands respect!). Dwain is a part-time foster parent for the older Shelties that need less training and a quiet place to stay while their forever families search for them. He's been the adopted parent of Sugar since March 2001, Charlie Brown since May 2001, and Chance since October 2002. Dwain has only been with dogs since adopting Sugar but has taken to Shelties and dogs in general like a duck to water. He never goes anywhere but to work without them and has found virtually every park over two acres in the St. Louis metro area. The dogs get to go to the parks on Sundays in the "go-fur-ride" whenever the weather is pleasant. Dwain also sails on Creve Coeur Lake - the dogs do not go along, primarily because he's racing and the boat is very small; none of his dogs are "water-dogs" either. Sugar (a.k.a. Sugar Bear) is the boss-dog; the only dog allowed on the furniture and on the bed (those are her rules, not Dwain's!). She's the official watch-dog, and ensures the batteries in the doorbell never need replacing by acting as a pre-ring alarm. She also is the front-seat dog and is happiest with her feet in Dwain's lap and her head out the window when traveling in the neighborhood. She enjoys being told she's pretty, having her paws held, and being primped daily. Charlie Brown is an avid television watcher (or TB as he likes to call it) who eats unbuttered popcorn his poppa throws his way when they watch a movie together. Charlie Brown easily identifies the bad people and good people. He also knows pickup trucks and big diesel engines - he's particularly fond of Chevy pickups and school buses; although he's not caught one yet, he certainly gives it his "all". His hobbies include drooling, leaving calf hooves in slippers, "fence fighting" (where he runs up and down a fence line where a dog on the other side keeps pace - recently, that's included a neighbor's guest Rescued greyhound!), and chasing the rabbits out of the back yard. Mr. Chance is a senior Sheltie who's beginning his second puppyhood. Although arthritic, somewhat deaf and having poor vision, he's a very active dog who appreciates the finer things in life - food, love, food, sleep, food, chin scratches, food. He spends a large amount of his day ensuring peace reigns supreme - by sleeping to check up on it. His turn-ons include 3 Dog Bakery's small snack *T*R*E*A*T*S*, the occasional chew-flip and a muzzle massage. His turn-offs includes getting brushed with weapons of mats-destruction, baths ( the "B" word) , and having food taken away from him. They all enjoy getting in the "go-fur-ride" - so the boys can immediately go to sleep and wake up in a park! They converse occasionally with their furiends on the "Sniff-ya-Later" list, and follow Dwain around faithfully like chicks after a mother-hen. Say hello the next time you see them - they're happy to meet new two-leg or more-leg friends. |
