| It all started one July in 1994 when I spotted an add in the Sunday paper under dog listings -- Sheltie Rescue had 4 abandoned puppies for adoption. I didnt even know there was such a thing as Sheltie Rescue! I went over to Marie Bonsacks house (founder of Sheltie Rescue) and came home with the cutest little Sheltie I had ever seen! I didnt know squat about Shelties, but I was determined to learn. During the next two years, I enrolled in obedience classes with Andy and also kept in touch with Marie who encouraged me to come to public relations events with Andy. Andy had earned his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) title and was certified as a Therapy Dog with Love On A Leash. Marie said Andy was a very good example of just what these dogs nobody wanted and dumped could accomplish! Well, needless to say, I got hooked on volunteering and my first foster girl came New Years Eve of 1996. Ive lost count of how many Shelties have come through our door during the past 7 years, but Ive loved each and every one of them. Through the years, I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge on dog behavior, obedience training, clicker training, grooming, building a web site, public relations, party planning, writing and publishing a book, and even some canine medical knowledge. Ive gained some treasured friends who give tirelessly of their spare time to Sheltie Rescue. I went from 2 dogs (our golden retriever has since passed away), to four dogs. Lucy Blue and Lucas, were fosters I adopted -- both came from Missouri puppy mills. I never thought I would ever own ONE dog much less FOUR! Ive learned of the truly unconditional love and forgiveness dogs who have been abandoned, mistreated, neglected and abused have for us. There is nothing more rewarding than that first look of trust they give you. And, they NEVER, ever forget their foster mom -- I get the best greetings when I see a former foster dog! I believe circumstances in life always happen for a reason. I adopted my golden retriever, Dusty, because I had to go on disability -- I was terribly lonely and depressed being house bound most of the time. I felt my life must be over -- or so I thought! Little did I know a new adventure was waiting just around the corner for me! Volunteering with Sheltie Rescue allowed me to work from my home at my own energy level and pace which was perfect for me. All of my blessings happened because of an illness. I truly believe when God closes a door, he opens a window. Everyone needs something in life they are passionate about -- Sheltie Rescue became mine. |

| Katie (3 mo. pic) is the newest member of the Woof Pack. She and her sister were turned in to Sheltie Rescue when they were 8 weeks old. They were destined for a pet store, but did not pass the vet check. Rather than euthanize them, the woman who bred them contacted Sheltie Rescue to see if we could help. Both girls have a neurological disorder which causes head tremors. Katie was named after Katherine Hepburn -- the dynamic actress with a lot of spunk, brains, and beauty (plus a slight head tremor). | |||||||||||||||||
