A Regarding Shelters Calling Second Chance Sheltie Rescue about dogs

I would like to help Second Chance Sheltie Rescue by fielding calls from other Rescues or Animal Control Agencies, picking up Shelties from other rescues, or similar activities (Intake Assistance).

C.  GROOMING ABILITIES for newly rescued Shelties.  

Shelties coming into Rescue often have significant grooming needs, ranging from simple brushing to shaving.  Experienced groomers for long-hair double-coated breeds are always in demand; anyone who can wash a dog is very handy!

I can assist in bathing/clipping/brushing/nail-clipping the following:

Generally, Second Chance Sheltie Rescue will not be receiving unhealthy dogs into the Rescue, but from time-to-time, some dogs may exhibit signs of illness that typically do not impact their adoptability (kennel cough, parasites, superficial injuries).  Can you assist in grooming these dogs also?   Yes ________     No__________

D.  FOSTERING CAPABILITIES.

This application is not a foster home application but can be used to indicate intent to foster.  State regulations require Rescue organizations to maintain separate records for foster homes.  Please refer to the foster home application on our website if you would like to foster.  This section of the volunteer application does not bind you to fostering.

E.  INTERVIEWING & EDUCATING prospective ADOPTERS.

F.  TRANSPORTATION of Dogs

It is sometimes necessary for Sheltie Rescue volunteers to travel long distances to retrieve dogs being taken into our program.  Missouri has a large number of commercial breeders (PUPPY MILLS), and it may be necessary to travel to central or south Missouri to obtain dogs being surrendered.  If you can fill either local or long distance transportation needs, indicate below.

G.  PUBLIC RELATIONS for Second Chance Sheltie Rescue

Public Relations is one of the most important aspects of Second Chance Sheltie Rescue.  The strength of the Rescue is in the volunteers, and that is most evident when the time comes to participate or coordinate in Public Events.

I can post notices about dogs available in our program at local vets, groomers and pet-friendly agencies in my area.  I can post notices about dogs available in our program at on-line/web services.  I can participate in advertising Sheltie Rescue events at the local vets, groomers, pet-friendly agencies and others in my area. 

I can handle internet correspondences for rescuers and fosterers (for those who have limited internet access).  

I can work at Sheltie Rescue events (open houses, education events, fund-raising booths at area events)    The longest time I'd prefer working at the event would be ______  hours.

I can help set up booths, information tables, materials. etc.,  at Sheltie Rescue events. I can contribute equipment, drop off and pick up that equipment at Sheltie Rescue events

H.  CONTRIBUTION SOLICITY and FUNDRAISING.

Second Chance Sheltie Rescue financial survivability depends solely on contributions from private individuals and public fundraising events.  Enthusiastic salesmanship is very important to this aspect of Sheltie Rescue volunteering. 

I can solicit donations from known private contributors to Sheltie Rescue for special one-time contributions and general contributions.

I can conduct research and contact various foundations and individuals that provide funds or grants to Rescue organizations.  

I can craft fund-raising ideas, coordinate and implement them. I can support fundraising goals by participating in other ways.

J. TERMS OF ACCEPTANCE:  Should my application be accepted -

1. I will abide by the mission, rules, regulations, policies, and programs of SCSR while I am a volunteer.

2. If I stop being a volunteer for SCSR, or upon their request at any time, I will promptly return all of SCSR's supplies, equipment, records, money, and other items.

3. I understand that SCSR can refuse applications, for any reason.

4.  I agree not to use any SCSR assets, information or property (intellectual, electronic or physical) for any other purpose other than defined by SCSR and permitted by the Board and its Officers.  I will protect all such assets, information and property to prevent misuse or distribution.  I will not give or donate SCSR assets to any other animal welfare group for any reason without direction from the Board of Directors.

5. If I will be fostering any SCSR animals in my home, I consent to SCSR visiting my home from time to time to observe the animals and their living conditions.

K. RELEASE OF LIABILITY

I assume the risk of being injured by animals in conjunction with my volunteer work for Second Chance Sheltie Rescue, Inc., (hereafter referred to as SCSR).  SCSR is not liable to me for any injuries, damages, liabilities, losses, judgments, costs or expenses whatsoever, which I might suffer or sustain in connection with the performance of my volunteer activities for SCSR.  I will indemnify, defend and hold SCSR harmless from and against any claims, lawsuits, injuries, damages, losses, costs, or expenses whatsoever, sustained by any companion animal or any person in connection with my intentional misconduct or grossly negligent performance of volunteer activities for SCSR, or my breech of SCSR's rules, regulations, policies and programs. By submitting this application, and in consideration of this opportunity to volunteer, I agree to these terms and conditions, intending to be legally bound by them.
